Dog Rescue, especially including air transfer from Hawaii, is a labour of love. Only by combining grants, donations, in-kind contributions, employer charitable donation matching programs, reduced fee arrangements, and an all-volunteer workforce, is it possible to transform the lives of dogs.
Each dog receives the following:
Medical evaluation
Behavior evaluation
Spay or neuter
Microchip
Puppy Vaccinations (first set)
De-worming
Flea Treatment
Heartworm Treatment
Veterinary Health Certificate
Handling and airport transportation from shelter in Hawaii
Air transportation from Hawaii to Seattle
Handling and airport transportation from airport to foster home
Boarding, care, socialization, and medical attention during foster
The nominal cost to provide a dog with all of the services above is many times our requested adoption donation. Thanks to the Hawaii Island Humane Society and giving from our many generous benefactors, adoption donations can be kept modest to promote rescue dog adoption.
Thank you!
Adopting Families
Most of all, thank you to the loving families who have helped save a dog from Hawaii, and make room for more transfers in our foster homes.
Volunteers
Volunteers do everything for Poi Dog Rescue. Dog transport, foster, social media and marketing, meet and greet, and communications, all are done by caring people with their invaluable time. Bless all of them (us), as it takes a huge team to keep a rescue running.
Hawaii Island Humane Society
Without our shelter partner Hawaii Island Humane Society, it’s many dedicated volunteers, leaders, and benefactors, and the HIHS Mainland Transfer Program and it’s benefactors, none of this would be possible.
Discounted Fee Arrangements
Discounted fee arrangements allow helping of so many more animals with the limited funds available. Thanks to Alaska Airlines Cargo, Hawaiian Airlines Cargo, and Fountain Veterinary Hospital for their generosity to our cause.
Rescue friends and partners
The dog rescue world is a collection of dedicated volunteers across thousands of rescue organizations. We support all of their efforts.
An extra shout-out goes to Aloha Ilio Rescue who have been rescuing big island dogs for almost a decade. If you are on the Island of Hawaii, they have a dog that needs you.
And special thanks to Three Little Pitties Rescue for introducing the love and passion of rescuing dogs to us, as well as endless advice, support, and understanding. Their transports of dogs from Texas save thousands of dog lives every year.
